24•01•15 SM Accounts

16:12

Ok so, im not here to try and cause a storm or just be another one of those people that come along and start preaching about how bad it is to follow certain social media accounts like tumblr/instagram/twitter thinspo accounts or what not cos that would make me a hypocrite. What i am here to post about (and log for myself) is that there is so many out there that its not fair on people who are trying to recover. I myself have never been diagnosed with an eating disorder but i have gone through 'phases' of binging and purging and calorie counting.

Its so easy these days to be sucked into it when you have accounts constantly on the biggest platforms of social media posting about their eating disorders and how they don't want to get better because 'skinny is the way forward'. - we see these quotes every so often in the media or model sites that read 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' well what does skinny feel like? does it make your hair glossy? make your skin glow? make your nails strong? make you healthy?

NO. it does not. and it needs to not be glamourised on social media accounts by people who are trying to set trends and create their own fan bases in an attempt to 'help someone'. what infact they are doing is helping someone to die, helping them to become frail and ill, brittle nails, rough, drained skin, missing hair falling out in clumps. it certainly won't make you happy.

I wish people would see this, especially the younger children of today. its upsetting that children as young as 4 years old know what 'fat' means. I work with pre school age and one child said to me the other day "where has fat *amy* gone?" ok i admit she has some weight on her but thats just her body shape and how she was made. Even if it wasn't how she was made she chooses to not let it bother her and she's confident. Children as young as that shouldn't be aware of body types, yes i agree if their parent thinks they are a little chubby then cut down their meals or something but don't introduce them to this horrid world of 'thin & slim'

you are attractive know matter what your size, colour of your skin is or what your hair is like. You can and will be successful in your future if you work towards it. You can do whatever you like and wear whatever you want and not have to worry about what people think.

I myself struggled so bad with all this last year and as much as its only still the beginning of the new year i feel so much more positive about my thoughts. some days i have triggering thoughts and want to go back into following these type of accounts but i know its not going to do myself or my mind (never mind my body) any good. I just wish people would stop trying to make not eating glamourous. its dangerous.

Why not make accounts showing how much damage it can do or what effects it has on your health, growth, hair, skin and nails. you can suffer heart problems and attacks. if you purge too much you can rupture your stomach lining and burn your throat with the acid you have in your vomit.

it makes me genuinely sad that young children these days are joining these little online 'fan' sites that encourage them to basically die.
