Megan is missing: Review
08:45
Fictional drama based on actual events, about 2 teen-age girls who encounter an internet predator
- Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13, though opposites in personality, are best friends. Megan carries the front of being the most popular girl in school, but this masks a lifestyle of hard partying, drugs, alcohol and indiscriminate sex. Amy, unpopular and socially awkward, clings to her relationship with Megan as a lifeline to social acceptance. Together, these two young girls forge a deep friendship based on their mutual needs. The two girls regularly communicate by web chat cameras or cell phone, and even meet boys online. As Megan seeks friends who are different from her usual posse of hanger-ons, she is introduced by a friend online to a 17 year-old boy named Josh in a chat room. Megan and Josh bond quickly, leaving Amy feeling a bit left out. One day, Megan goes to meet Josh in person, and she is never seen again. Amy launches into a concentrated effort to find her friend. As the media swirls around the story of Megan's disappearance, Amy discovers the horrifying truth about what happened to her friend. Based on research into seven actual cases of child abduction, MEGAN IS MISSING is an uncompromising, gut-wrenching view of the world children live in today. Harrowing in its realism, the film uses only fact-based incidences to depict the lives of ordinary kids walking in the midst of extraordinary evil.(- Written by Michael Goi)
- My thoughts:
I watched this one afternoon with my friend who is also called Megan. We had know idea it would of gone the way it did.
In one of the first few scenes it shown Megan and her friends going to a party which was full of drug use and hard partying,
Megan seemed like a popular girl and it was clear she would take part in activities to keep her 'status'.
During the film we got to see Megan's vulnerable side which was more shown when her mother would have a go at her
and blame her for certain things. Megan confided in her best friend Amy about her past and having her step father sent to prison for abusing her.
She spoke out which was brave of her yet her mother hadn't treated her the same since so she had seeked attention from older men on the internet.
One day she got speaking to Josh, who seemed like a normal young boy who liked sports and went to college.
It wasn't until one day when Megan went out to meet him at their arranged place that she didn't return.
A few days later a police case had started and Amy was beside herself, she knew that Josh was responsible but couldn't prove anything.
One day as Amy sat in their secret spot that she shared with Megan, a man lurking behind the trees was watching Amy and she then vanished too.
During the last twenty or so minutes it was footage from Amy's video camera of her being tortured in an underground basement with high doors that you see in old films.
Amy had chains around her neck and was treated like an animal. at 14 years old this was obviously traumatising for her and absolutely disturbing to watch her go through that.
Josh went on to film Amy discover her best friend Megan dead in a barrel then made her climb into it while he locked the lid tightly on so she would suffocated to death next to her,
already tortured and dead friend whilst he dug their graves.
Absolutely sickening but i don't regret watching it as it really opened up my eyes to internet predators and more.
Just know that know matter how much you really trust someone you have spoke to online, you never really know them.
If you ever meet up with anyone, take someone with you, make sure you meet up in a busy place like a cafe or restaurant
and don't leave to go anywhere with them until you get to know them a lot more.
